Terms of use
Draft dated 11 October 2026.
These terms are written to be read. By using Measured Plate you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What this site is
Measured Plate is a food composition reference and a calculator. It shows what a named source records for a portion of food. It compares those amounts with daily limits that you type in yourself, and it adds up what you choose to add to a day.
That is all it does.
General information, not medical advice
General information only. It does not replace the advice of your own doctor or dietitian.
- Nothing on the site is medical, dietary or nursing advice for you or for anyone else.
- The site does not know you. It does not diagnose, and it does not say what you should eat or what your limits should be.
- Using the site does not make the author, or anyone connected with the site, your doctor or your dietitian.
- The site is not a reason to change your food, your fluids or your medicines. Your own doctor or dietitian is the person to ask.
If you feel unwell, contact your doctor or emergency services.
Your limits are yours
The site never supplies a limit. Any limit it shows is one you typed in. It is for you to enter the figures your own doctor or dietitian gave you, in the right units, and to keep them up to date.
A share of a limit is arithmetic on the figure you entered. It is not a statement that an amount is right for you.
The figures can contain errors
The figures come from named sources, set out on Where the numbers come from. We build and check them with care. Even so:
- A source can be wrong, and so can the way this site was built from it.
- A figure for a general food is a typical value. The brand, the recipe and the portion in front of you may differ. The label on the pack is the figure for that pack.
- Some figures are missing. They are shown as "not reported", and a total that includes them is shown as "at least".
- What you type in yourself, such as a limit or the figures from a label, is only as right as what was typed.
If you think a number is wrong, tell us through the Contact page. Changes are listed on the Corrections page.
No promise about results
We make no promise about your health or about any result from using the site. It is a reference and a calculator. It does not manage any condition.
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise that it will always be available, that it is free of errors, or that it is fit for a particular purpose.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for loss or harm that comes from relying on the site in place of the advice of your own doctor or dietitian. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that the law does not allow to be limited.
What is free
Using the site costs nothing and needs no account. Looking up a food and changing its portion, entering your limits and seeing the share of each, checking a label, today's total and the last 7 days, printing, and seeing, exporting and erasing what is stored on your device are free, and we intend to keep them free.
We may add to the site, change it or correct it at any time. What you have stored stays on your device and stays yours.
Using the site fairly
Please do not:
- try to break the site, get around its security, or overload it
- copy the whole site by automated means in a way that burdens it
- pass off its pages as medical advice, or as approved by any doctor, clinic or agency
- use the Measured Plate name or logo in a way that suggests we stand behind your product or service
The USDA figures are in the public domain, and you may use them freely from USDA. The words, plain food names, design and logo of this site belong to its owner. You may print pages and share links for your own use and for the people you care for or cook for.
Links to other sites
The site links to its sources, such as USDA and the United States Code of Federal Regulations. We do not run those sites and are not responsible for them. The site carries no advertising and no paid links.
Written for the United States
The site is written for people in the United States. It uses United States food data, United States household measures such as cups and ounces, and United States food label rules. Foods, labels and rules differ in other countries, and the figures here may not match them.
Your privacy
What the site stores, and where, is set out in the Privacy notice.
If these terms change
The date at the top shows when these terms were last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, the new terms apply.
